Summary Little bee:

Little bee is a book about a refugee of Nigeria. It starts with the story she is in a boat entering the englisch coast, however the boat arrived quite quickly, the refugees were forced to stay inside. Little bee was thubking about the outside world and in what way she wouldn’t be a misfit in the community. For this reason she started reading English newspaper and listening to the queen so she could practice her accent. Fortunately she made a few friends, wherethrough whe was able to be released earlier. One of her friends slept with the security guard and for that reason she got out. On the other hand there was the problem they got released without her documents.

 

When she hit the ground of the united kingdom the 4 girls started walking across the road. It didn’t take long before they found a phone cell and they rang a taxi company. Because of Little bee her accent the taxi company accepted their call and came as fast as possible. But when the capdriver realizes they are refugees, he drives away as fast as he can. The 4 girls don’t know what to do, so they just start walking across the road. A few moments later a farmer passes and offers them to stay at his farm. When they arrived here they found their peace again, but for one girl. The next morning Little bee finds her, nevertheless she was dead. She hang herself at the edge of her bed.

 

From this point on Little bee is scared, and thinks about where to go. From this moment you start knowing why she chose to go to the UK. Namely in her little bag she has got a visit card from a British family who visited Nigeria a few years ago. There is also a driver license of a man in it. She decides to go to the house of the people she has the names of. When she arrives at the house she hides in the garden until the mother and the son are gone. Then she wonders what to do and after a few seconds she decides to call the house. The man of the house took up the phone and she told the story she was there. He couldn’t believe his ears and starting to shout throuw the phone. At that point Little bee decides te show herself to the man. When he sees her he mentally breaks down. A few pages later you find out the man hang himself aswell.

 

At this point the book was really interesting, cuz I had no clue what happened in Nigeria. And then the book really starts and begins explaining how they met. Apparently the British people decided to go to Nigeria for holidays. However when they were there a local riot started. When they walked on the beach there came some ‘terrorists’  to them with 2 little girls. They said to the man and wife that they would rape and murder the girls if they didn’t offer a finger instead. The man was too scared and didn’t do it, how ever the women did have the balls to cut off her own finger and saved little bees life by doing this. Little bees sister got raped and murdered. When little bee showed herself the man thought he had hallucinations. For this reason he killed himself. A few weeks later little bee goes to the house again. But this time she meets the woman. The woman takes her in and treats her as her own. They have another kid, named: batman. He is called batman cuz he never takes his suite of since his father died.

 

One day they decided to go to the beach. On the beach they lost Charlie, batman, they started searching for her, but when they did, little bee got caught by the police. Unfortunately she didn’t have her documents, so the government decided that she had to be offshored to her own country again. She got taken away from her new family and got send back.

 

The woman couldn’t live with this idea, so she followed her by plane. When they arrived in Nigeria, the riot was stock. The story ends when they are at the same beach, where little bees sister got killed. In the end little tells Charlie her name, wherethrough batman is confident and takes of his suite for the first time since his dead died.

 

I think this book really improved my English. In the beginning it was quite hard to read fluently, however after reading for 5 hours I got used to it and started to read faster. Next to the fact my reading skills became better, it was also good my vocab. This summary I wrote without using a dictionary. I really made more mistakes before reading the book.

 

The second book I read was named collector.

Summary:

 

The collector is a book about a man that lives in a poor situation with his mom and brothers. From the beginning he is in love with a girl he met when he was still in the elementary school. One day he travels to London to look her up. He follows her for a few times and wonders how it would be like to share his life with her.

 

One day he buys a ticket for a lottery and wins the biggest price. With the money he buys a little house in the middle of nowhere. From this point he develops a plan how to be together with her. Then one day she is waslking home. He follows her till she is at a spot where no one can see her. He covers a paper in moniac and holds it before her head until she knocks out. Afterwards he put her in the back of his car and brings her to the house.

 

When they arrived he put her in a room and closes the door. The woman is of course super scared and starts yelling at him to let her out and give her life back. The man however stays calm and says she has to calm down. For a long time he locks her up until she calms down. From that point he tries to win her love by giving her everything she wants. He even buys expensive painting to satisfy her; good she wants; even gave the wall a new colour.

 

Eventually he thinks the girl is comfortable and he decides to listen to her wish to bring her outside for a bit. She goes out and after a while they go back inside again. This process happens a few time until he trust her enough to let her alone in his whole house. But then one day he comes home and she tries to hit him with a hammer. Aggressively he puts her back into the small room. The girl starts being sick.

 

At this spot the narrative of the story changes in to the one of the girl. Everything that happened is now told out of the eyes of the women. It shows the process how the girls decides to play the game with the obsessed man. But when she tries to hit him she is put back into the room. Now she realizes she is never getting her freedom again. The man wont trust him anymore and in her eyes wont do this again.

 

After thinking a while she thinks she can win his trust by giving her body to her. The man on the other hand sees this as an act of a hoe. So for this reason he starting hating her. When she is back in to the small room her body takes over the control and makes her very sick. The man doesn’t know what to do and just wait the time.

 

In the end the girl dies by the decease and the man goes back to his family.

 

These two books I read for the main reason to improve my english reading skills. Because of the fact I want to learn how to speak english in the B2B industrie I will read 2 more books. However when I will read this I will be focussing on increasing my vocab. Bij writing the words, i didn't know yet, down. this I will do in the next couple of weeks.
